Harvey Milk

Harvey Milk (1930-1978) was a U.S. politician. In 1977, he was elected as an openly gay man to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors. He was a tireless campaigner for human and civil rights. One short year after his election to public office, Harvey Milk was assassinated along with the Mayor of San Francisco.

In 1985, The Harvey Milk School, an alternative high school for gay students opened in New York City. It remains strong today as a living tribute to Milk's dedication and commitment to the rights of homosexuals.
