Making Connections Training Teachers

Assessment Plan & Project Timeline

San Diego State University
Department of Policy Studies in Language & Cross Cultural Education

César Chávez Elementary School

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting ~ Ernest Boyer Next Step Grant

Assessment & Evaluation Phases:

Phase I. A needs assessment will be conducted at the beginning of the project to determine first, the existing hardware and software, the availability to classrooms and teachers, and planned uses and second, teacher, student teacher, and support staff levels of expertise in computer technologies. Finally, teachers and staff comfort level and expected program goals will be determined. These assessments will be completed utilizing questionnaires and formal and informal interviews.

Phase II. Continual assessment of implementation of curriculum, teacher comfort, and classroom climate will be conducted to assist in the direction of training and facilitation sessions.

Phase III. Post Assessment will be completed to determine mastery of skills, classroom climate and teacher expertise and comfort levels. These will be compared to the areas assessed at the beginning of the project.

Assessment Procedures:

It is expected that support staff and student teachers, who will be involved in more training hours, will provide more direct support to the classroom teachers and the students in the area of technology. Progress of this project will be documented on a CPB Next Step Grant home page. This site will provide information about the present project, training materials, curriculum, links to educational resources, and a Question & Answer page to allow for dialogue about the project and related areas.

Upon completion of the project the Project Investigator and Service Coordinator will have developed a training model for infusing technology across the curriculum. In addition, the project lessons developed will be documented and available for use in teacher training courses in the university and at cooperating schools in the district.

Timeline:

Throughout the project the training curriculum will be developed and modified to match the needs and requirements of the school and the faculty and staff. Project progress and resources will be posted monthly on the CPB Grant Home page after it's initial development.
