Project Management

In this episode, a screencast takes a look at some of the masters courses and EDTEC 684, our class on project management. This class, like many of our classes has students on campus and online. We briefly look at the themes of the course and you get a look at the course management software moodle and the conferencing software Breeze, two of the tools we use to facilitate interaction between the students on campus and online.

The best career you never heard of..

Wed. Oct 25th, is the undergraduate career fair where juniors and seniors of any major can learn about the best career out there. What is that career? Well, it's a career that can take on many different job titles, instructional designer, educational technologist, performance consultant, and more. We'll hear from companies around San Diego that are here to tell you why they hire EDTEC grads.

This podcast is just the teaser. We'll come back with some interviews from the career fair in a future episode. You will get sample of what Robin Martin, former co-host, and instructional designer at Mission Federal Credit Union will be saying at the event on the 25th.

I'll point you to the student projects from the EDTEC 700 course on Educational Podcasting.

We'll get a visit from SAGE president Chrissy Chamberlain. When IS the holiday party? Find out here.

Podcasting with Odeo

We run a course on Educational Podcasting here at SDSU. It's a one unit course held this Saturday September 16 and again on September 30th. I'm busy prepping for the class this week, but will continue with more episodes throughout the academic school year.

In future episodes, we'll get back to more of a radio format, but this week I'm sharing some of the course materials. I did two screencasts on one of my new favorite sites, ODEO. I may do more for the class on the other sites/programs we're using. (We're covering feedburner.com, iTunes, and Garageband. )

The first screencast covers how and why you should set up an ODEO account, and the second screencast shows some of the ways to record your show. I thought about putting them up on my new favorite site, youtube.com but decided to make them available for download instead.

Each screencast is in an iPod friendly format that will play for anyone with quicktime installed on their machine.

We've Arrived

Our first show was submitted to the iTunes Music Store and is now available for free download. You can access it by visiting the podcast section and doing a search for the name of our show, San Diego EDTEC

OR....

Click here to subscribe in iTunes. Imagine, a piping hot episode of San Diego EDTEC delivered fresh every other week to your iTunes. Once you've subscribed it just goes out and gets the latest episode without any effort on your part.

Ahem, that is, it'll do it automatically unless you've changed your settings. But if you've been fiddling around in your settings, you're probably savvy enough to figure out how to update your podcasts.

For those of you who don't use iTunes, there are links to our RSS feed on the right.

Pick a Tagline

The new web is a place for dialogue, and in the spirit of Web 2.0 I'm trying to encourage as much participation from the audience of this series as possible. This series can be a success if it delivers matches content with what the audience is looking for. I have ideas of what will make a good show, but I don't know for sure, so I'm asking the audience.

To encourage participation, I'm hosting a contest. The name San Diego EDTEC is descriptive, but it's far from clever. That's why we need a good tagline. Do you have any recommendations? We'll be running this contest for the next 4 (or more) weeks, then we'll look at our suggestions and pick our new tagline.

Getting Ready for Episode 1

I'm Karl Richter, the host of the San Diego EDTEC podcast series. In this preview, a fellow EDTEC student, Chrissy Chamberlain, and I shared thoughts on podcasting and audience participation. In this episode, we talk through our plans for this site and the series. My personal highlight was when I messed up my own name.

You can listen to our preview episode here.
