Overview
NOTE: WE ARE AN "EARLY START" BLOCK. THIS MEANS WE BEGIN THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH THE CHULA VISTA CALENDAR IN MID-AUGUST.
The faculty and staff at Clear View welcomes the student teachers into the school community, helping to prepare them to be an active and valuable part of a school faculty. There are three unique programs student teachers participate in that are worth highlighting: Tutoring, Families, Shared Expertise.
Tutoring
Students participate in a before school tutoring program designed to provided support to emerging readers or writers. Every student teacher will be paired up with a young (grades 1-3) student at Clear View Elementary for twice-weekly assessment and instruction. Student Teachers will provide 6 weeks of support in the fall and another 6 weeks of tutoring during the spring semester.
Families
The Families program at Clear View Charter is a cross-age multi-year experience for all students. A Clear View Family is a group of approximately 22 students in grades K-6 and a credentialed teacher who meet together in a group for 45 minutes, once a week. When students first arrive at Clear View they are assigned a family where they remain during their entire time at Clear View. Student teachers are assigned as visitors with families for the entire school year.
Shared Expertise
The Shared Expertise program invites Clear View faculty members to host workshops for student teachers based on their area of expertise. Topics vary from semester to semester but always include standards-based presentations on physical education, visual and performing arts, and movement and music. Recent workshops have also focused on using rubrics, integrating curriculum and classroom management techniques. There are at least five workshops hosted by Clear View faculty every semester.
