Addressing obstacles and identifying strategies to making science accessible for all learners

This iMovie was made by Christa Lorentz in the first week of her elementary science methods course as she reflected upon her science experience. Christa had several positive and negative experiences in her K-16 science learning including a shift in her perceptions about science as an active and engaging process of refining tentative theories as a result of her participation in Natural Science 410 class at San Diego State University. Christa even returned to interview her professor and explore what made that experience so engaging for her as an emerging teacher. While reading from such provocative authors as Herbert Kohl, Phillip Jackson, William Ayers, bell hooks, and other teacher/scholars Christa and other pre-service elementary teachers of Teacher Education 910C expressed their commonly shared frustrations with their science learning experiences and desire to learn alternative methods.
