About Your Service
ANYTIME
during the year! |

Liz Brown speaks to a classroom of Girl Scouts |
|
| Although Peace
Corps Week (first week in March) is the official time
to celebrate promoting a better understanding of other cultures,
we can get into the community, share our experiences, and open
up the world, one speaking engagement at a time throughout
the whole year!
Speak
to students at Peace Corps Information Meetings, Boy Scouts,
Girl Scouts, Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, schools and groups throughout
San Diego County, and more...
Up-coming
Speakers Needed!
(see also in Bulletin Board under Connections)
- Speakers
can present the culture of their host
country
- Presentations can be as interactive as possible:
- photos,
- local foods
- clothing
- fabrics,
- national music,
etc.
- Speakers
can have a frank discussion with the students
and answer questions about what some of the country's/community's
real needs are.
- Students can work on some sort
of service project tied to your presentation. The teacher or leader of the group you present to would coordinate such an activity.
- Teacher/group have contacted group(s) of children in a presenter's country of service to communicate or receive/exchange these packs although that's
not required.
- The children have made little "Peace
Packs," knapsacks with their handprints in
paint, a note of peace, and some school supplies
and basic dental hygience stuff and send them to
the country they learned about.
- It's always really fun, and the kids
are super curious.

Please join us for the San Diego Peace Corps Association's February social hour at 94th Aero Squadron next to Montgomery Field on Thursday February 25.

Located inside a replica of a World War I French farmhouse, the restaurant sits overlooking Montgomery Field Airport, and is packed full of military memorabilia, antique farm implements, and aviation relics. The interior is cozy and romantic, with huge stone fireplaces, masses of hanging green plants, dark wood paneling, beamed ceilings, and old airplane wings hanging over the dining area. There are even headphones at some of the tables for diners to listen to the FAA control tower. On warm evenings and at lunchtime you can sit outdoors on a grassy embankment at umbrella topped tables and be surrounded by an old model airplane, an army jeep, and a duck pond.
