Gene Valles has been in the field of special education for 32 years and has taught at San Diego State University since 1993. Prior to coming to SDSU Dr. Valles taught in the public schools for 16 years, working for four to seven years at each of the grade levels with learners representing a variety of disability categories. His primary areas of interest are classroom organization and management to include teaching and working with learners with special needs, and their families, from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In addition to his teaching and supervision duties he is currently co-director of a Bilingual Special Education teacher preparation program at SDSU, Acquisition of Language and Academic Skills (ALAS).
