Important Announcement

 

To apply for the Internship Credential, based on recent amendments to Education Specialist Internships, Interns are now required to have English Learner and Language Arts Preparation (120 hours of practicum and course work in related areas) before beginning as an intern. If a student holds another credential issued before 2002, all of these requirements are met. If a student does not hold another credential, to become an Intern students must take SPED 500, 501, 502, 527, 915C, and an emphasis class, all of which are offered in the summer. Throughout the program of study all courses are infused with English learner and multicultural competencies; Interns will need to demonstrate competencies related to multicultural diversity, English language learner instruction, and Language Arts instruction during every semester of their program.

A special educator teaches students with disabilities in a variety of settings - including pre-schools, k-12 schools, and the workplace. A well trained special educator works in partnership with families and other professionals, and advocates for individuals with special needs. STEP1. Your first step should be to attend a group advising session. In these sessions you will have a chance to meet faculty members, learn details about the programs, and more about the application procedure. An informational video will be played during the meeting. STEP4. Sit back and wait. Faculty consider applications shortly after scheduled deadlines. You will be contacted by the Department as soon as a decision has been made.
