Suggested Sequence

The Master of Arts degree in education with a concentration in secondary curriculum and instruction is designed as the base for applicants to increase professional competence in any of the fields typically taught in secondary schools, and for obtaining those competencies and technical skills in curriculum and instruction either generally, or in selected areas of specialization.

Initial Course - 3 units

Ed 690 , Methods of Inquiry

  Core Program - 6 units

  Selection 1- 3 units

Teacher Ed (TE) 600, Curriculum Development in Education

Selection 2- Choose one of the following courses 3 units

Teacher Ed 604, Advanced Problems in Instruction

Teacher Ed 655, Sociocultural Foundations of American

Teacher Ed 656, Struggle for the American Curriculum

 

Electives 15 units

Electives- 500/600/700 level classes

(with approval of advisor)

Minimum of 3 units must be in 600/700 courses

Maximum of 6 units can be taken in cognate areas outside of Ed

 

Research Component (courses must be taken consecutively) 3-6 units

Ed 795 A Seminar (cannot be taken concurrently with ED 795B)

Ed 795B Seminar

(Ed 799A-Thesis is an option—see advisor for instructions)
