Comprehensive Exam information
There is a mandatory meeting for students who will be taking the Comprehensive Exam during Fall 08 on Friday, September 5th, 4:30-6:00 p.m. in EBA 253. STE suggests that you begin to study the semester prior to taking the exam.
See the attached guidelines and study questions for further information regarding the Study Session. For information or questions please email Melanie Falkenberg.
All students who take Ed 795A and Ed 795B also must take the Comprehensive Examination. In order to be prepared for the exam, save your syllabi and readings from each class. Also it is recommended that you take the time to summarize what you have learned in each class by identifying the key researchers, theorists, and studies that were covered in your class. Do this at the end of the class. Being organized will assist you in studying for the comprehensive examination. Topics to be covered at this meeting:
- Structure of the Comprehensive Exam
- Expectations for Passing
- Possible issues included in the Exam may deal with assessment, research design, curriculum development, action research, cognitive theories of learning, issues of equity and instruction, and organizational change
- Use of APA style
- Discussion of references, theorists, and frameworks
- Plagiarism
Comprehensive Exam will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. in NE 271 (budget limitations determined date and time of exam). You must sign up with Melanie Falkenberg at mfalkenb@mail.sdsu.edu in advance of the comprehensive exam. Please let her know that you are planning on taking the exam that day.
