flight instructor for the navy, currently student teacher in math

Background
I grew up in Pennsylvania, graduated from the Universty of Rochester in New York in '87 and immediately entered the Navy. I spent almost eight years in the Navy as a radar intercept officer in the F-14. I got out of the Navy in January of '95 and started pursuing my 'real' career as a teacher. I've spent about a year and a half teaching all age groups of children in our church's children's ministry. This is where I first realized I had a love for children and teaching.
Interests, Activities & Plans
I am presently working on my single subject teaching credential in math. My goal is to teach math in a way that is alive and exciting, and that will foster in my students a genuine interest for math. I would love to somehow incorporate P.E. and mathematics into an interdisciplinary educational experience, partly for selfish reasons, but also because I know most students expect math to be a passive learning experience. I believe this would be a great way to access the active learners and quite frankly to brighten up a subject that many people see as 'really boring'.
Other Interesting Things
My passions outside of teaching are God, my wife, mountain biking, working out, traveling, and any outdoor activity that requres physical effort. This ordered list could easily represent the amount of time I spend each week involved in these activities, however my wife might argue that mountain biking would appear at the top of the list.
