Background
I was born in New York City and spent my first seven years there. My father was recalled into the Air Force in 1952, and I travelled extensively until he got out in 1958. I attended a central school in Trumansburg, NY until my senior year, when we moved to Ithaca, NY. I attended the University of Rochester on an NROTC scholarship, graduating in 1967. After receiving my masters degree from Penn State in 1968, I started my active duty Navy career. I spent over 26 years in the Navy, as a line officer, attorney and military judge. My most memorable experience in the Navy was the year I spent in Vietnam. As a judge, I presided over 800 criminal cases ranging from simple disrespect to murder.I retired in 1994 so I could be with my son during his last year in high school. I have considerable teaching experience at the community college and graduate level. I decided to become a middle or high school teacher because I truly enjoy teaching and I no longer want to practice law.
Interests, Activities & Plans
I am currently a full time student and hope to enter the teaching ranks in Fall 1996.
Other Interesting Things
I am married and have one son, who will attend UC Santa Barbara on a baseball scholarship this fall. He was a first team all California pitcher during his senior year at Mt. Carmel H.S. My wife and I intend to closely follow his college, and, perhaps professional, baseball career. We purchased a small recreation vehicle so we can take our pets with us when we go to see him play.
