Social Studies and Computers Teacher.
It was the idea of education that drew me to photojournalism, to show the
public the world that surrounds them. While these prospects have been
inviting, the nature of the media as we know it today does not allow for the
idealized education that being in a school provides. The classroom allows for
a much more pure (though not perfect) transfer of information and information
processing skills.
Other interests include continuing to pursue my photographic urges through
nature photography and black and white printing. During my summer and holiday
spare time, I try to read as much as possible, exploring fictional worlds and
the lives of people who have helped shape history in the United States and the
world.
Education
Goals
My present professional goals involve obtaining my teaching credential and
pursuing a career of teaching children the skills they need to be successful
through the study of history. I hope to be in a situation that allows me to
incorporate technology into daily classroom life.
Background
I was born in Chicago but moved to San Diego at an early age. All of my
education, including my time at UCSD and SDSU, has been in San Diego County.
While history is my scholastic emphasis, I've pursued photography with equal
vigor. Working as a Photojournalist at two college papers, UCSD
Guardian and SDSU Daily
Aztec, and the North County Blade-Citizen gave me a taste of
the media and let me see into the high, low, and ordinary moments of people's
lives in the communities of San Diego County.
Other Interesting Things
At every open opportunity I take to the road and travel. In recent years I
have camped up and down the entire west coast, spent time in Ireland, and
experienced a whirlwind trip of continental Europe and England. My love of
the outdoors and the wilderness is only shadowed by my devotion to my fiance
and traveling companion, Brenda, who will become my wife (and I her husband)
this summer.
