Student Observation Form
Your task in this portion of the expedition is to closely observe the O'Farrell students and capture as many relevant details as you can. Remember as you watch that this is the last week of summer school for them, so they may be more boisterous than typical students on a typical day.
Classroom Observation
How do the students act in class? Note their body language, the way they speak, what they say, where their eyes are looking, how attentive they seem to be. How do they interact with each other in class? Do you see any behavioral differences between boys and girls? More mature kids vs less? Use sentence fragments in the space below and leave room to elaborate on your notes later.
At Recess
How do the students interact with each other outside of class? What size groups do they form? Do groups form by gender or ethnicity or size? How are they dressed? What kinds of things do they say to each other? What kinds of things do they do?
In Conversation
Introduce yourself to one of the students. Tell them that you'll be teaching here this year and that you're looking forward to it. Ask them to tell you about O'Farrell students. What are they interested in? What are they good at? If they had to choose five adjectives to describe O'Farrell students, what would they be?
