Kimmy and Henson Streets

The residential area that we observed was located on the corners of Kimmy and Henson streets. The houses were single unit, apparently 3 bedroom, and either single or two-story homes. The yards were generally well kept, with potted plants and grass.

The streets were basically clean and well maintained. Graffiti was evident in only one spot, adorning a wooden fence facing the street. The homes and vehicles appeared to represent a middle-class neighborhood. Most driveways contained mid-eighties or newer-model vehicles including a 1993 Nissan 300ZX. There was only a small amount of activity on the block, including the Cox Cable repair man, one African-American lady working in her garage, and two ladies going door to door carrying notebooks, talking to people. One interesting thing we noted was that all of the mail-boxes were "group style"; that is they were all one unit at the end of the street. We also noted that the neighborhood was very quiet with very little traffic.

Postscript: Six Months Later...

Six months later, upon our return to this neighborhood, the primary differences were due to the change in season. The trees were leafy and the grass green due to the recent rains. This made the houses look better-kept, and the area more inviting. Traffic was still minimal, and the the noise level was low. Our initial impressions of the neighborhood were positive, and revisiting the site reinforced our position. It appears that most of the homes are owner-occupied, and this probably stabilizes the area as people have an interest in maintaining the area.
