About This Exercise
On August 1, 1996, twenty-two student teachers were given the task of exploring the community around O'Farrell Community School and Morse High School, the schools at which they will be spending a great deal of time in the coming year. Their goal was to get a handle on the neighborhood so that they would be better prepared to teach its children. They broke into six groups and began the morning by observing and interviewing summer school students at O'Farrell. Then each group went to two spots in the community, took notes and pictures, and interviewed residents with four major questions in mind. This page summarizes their findings.
