About This Exercise

See the 1996 Version

On September 1, 1998, twenty-four student teachers were given the task of exploring the community around O'Farrell Community School and Morse High School, the schools at which they will be spending a great deal of time in the coming year. Their goal was to get a handle on the neighborhood so that they would be better prepared to teach its children. They broke into six groups and went to two spots in the community, took notes and pictures, and interviewed residents with four major questions in mind. This page summarizes their preliminary (somewhat hurried) impressions which will be polished and illustrated further with photos in the weeks to come.
