Mathematics

Day 1

Introduction

This lesson will review complementary and supplementary angles, different types of polygons, and how to measure the angles using a protractor.

Materials

1. Protractors

2. Graph Paper

The Task

1. The students will split into groups of two.

2. The students will find different ways to make complementary and supplementary andgles.

3. The students will construct various triangles using their protractors.

4. The students will make various regular polygons using their protractors.

Guiding Questions

1. What is a complemetary and supplementary angle?

2. What is a regular triangle?

3. What are the measurements of the angles for a regular triangle?

4. Can you have a regular triangle with measurements other than 60-60-60?

5. What is a polygon?

6. What is a regular polygon?

Conclusion

The students are reviewing angles in relationship to polygons so they will be able to combine polygons to make a successful tessellation. This lesson prepares the students for the next lesson, which will explore what polygons can fit together without leaving any gaps.
