Student Teacher at O'Farrell Credential Block
- AA in Mathematics at San Diego City College
- BS in Biology at San Diego State University
Background
I was born and raised in the San Diego neighborhood of North Park and graduated from Hoover High School. I enrolled at SD City College in 1978, taking one class each semester for the next 15 years and earning my AA in mathematics before transfering to SDSU in 1992. By this time my four sons were in all in school, so I increased my school load to fulltime and earned my BS in Biology in 1994.
During these years of education I worked as a systems analyst at a local bank, installing a new computer system and converting the old files. I also had the opportunity to stay home with my children while they were very young, a rare treat.
Interests, Activities & Plans
As a mom I spent many hours volunteering in my children's classrooms and was encouraged by their teachers to become a teacher myself. These wonderful teachers/friends were a big influence in my realizing that I had a talent for teaching large groups of children and influencing them to discover information on their own. I am currently working as a substitute teacher in the Sweetwater District and have only been further encouraged that I am a really good teacher.
Other Interesting Things
My hobby has always been school, many semesters this was my only night out with other adults. The other major free time consumer is my children, having 4 boys within a five year span means 4 different soccar teams/practices, 4 different football teams, 4 different ... well you get the picture. We tend to attend each of the sporting events as a family group, my husband calls it the herd mentality, and so enjoy lots of evenings out of doors.
