TILE

Technology in Literacy Education (TILE) was initially created for use by university faculty and their students who are pursuing a Single Subject Teaching Credential. However, the concepts and strategies embedded in the program are also applicable for university students working on their Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and in-service workshops and classes for current teachers.

The program focus is on how technology can be used to enhance content acquisition and improve teaching in literacy. The technology in TILE refers not only to the unique way in which the content is delivered, but throughout the 12 modules different types and uses of technology are showcased and exemplified as a method to enhance teaching and learning in school.

The 12 interactive modules follow two student teachers as they encounter difficulties while learning their content and working with students, and how their interactions with students, mentor teachers, and university faculty help to overcome these difficulties.

To learn more about the TILE program, you can view the list of modules with a brief overview of the content, you can see what literacy, teaching, and technology strategies are depicted in the program, and you can see a demonstration of how the program works.

For the 2006-07 academic year, access to TILE is being made available to universities at a cost of $25 per user. If you are a faculty member who is considering incorporating TILE, please contact Donn Ritchie at dritchie@mail.sdsu.edu. You can purchase access to the program online through Aztec Shops at SDSU.
