Students write news stories in 4 areas:

• news
• editorials
• features
• sports

In each area, students must get information&emdash;from text sources&emdash;before going out on interviews. The library is down the hall, and had not been updated continously. So web sites are preferred.

Students will learn to get needed information from web sites. students will already know basics of

• keyboarding
• Macintosh Operatiing System
• saving on hard discs and floppies
• word processing

Learning Goals:

Student will learn

• …how to use multiple search engines, and know the basics of search skills.
• …access the San Diego Union-Tribune Online for prep sports.
• …access the San Diego Union-Tribune Online for local news.
• …access CNN or another national news service for state & national news.
• …learn

Learner Task:

What are you going to ask your learners to do/perform/create to indicate that they've learned what you wanted them to learn? An oral presentation? A letter to the President? A HyperStudio representation of a tidal pool? A simulated diary of a pioneer?

Students will demonstrate proficiency by

• bookmarking sites used during story assignment; folders and/or naming scheme for bookmarks will track students' work.
• citing web sites used.
