This project will cover in Accounting class the Big 5 Accounting firms. Students will be broken into 5 groups and have different roles in order to learn about one of the Big 5 Accounting firms. Each group will have to decide if the Big 5 Accounting firm that their group has choosen would be hired to do a major accounting project for their firm. The roles for each group would be the following: Outside Consultant, CEO, Financial Manager, and Accountant. Each person in each role would have a set of questions that would need to be answered and then the groups would have to decide whether they would use the Big 5 Accounting firm to complete the accounting project. The group would have to make a recommendation whether or not to hire the company and also convince the other class members of the decision.
Learning Goals:
What kinds of things do you hope your students will learn? You might want to put objectives in the form of a bulleted list like this:
Student will learn...
Learner Task:
What are you going to ask your learners to do/perform/create to indicate that they've learned what you wanted them to learn? An oral presentation? A letter to the President? A HyperStudio representation of a tidal pool? A simulated diary of a pioneer?
The culiminating task in this project will be to have an oral presentation by each group done on Powerpoint to explain the advantages and disadvantages of assigning the Accounting project to the Big 5 Firm. A representative from each of the five companies will be invited to preview the presentation.
