Topic:

Westward movement of the United States predicated upon the notion that it was the "destiny" of the United States to extend its borders from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. This was used as a justification for taking over the territories belonging to the Native Americans

This project will cover the Westward Movement of the United States from the early l800's to the start of the Civil War.

Learning Goals:

Student will learn...

Learner Task:

Students will write narratives from the point of view of Native Americans, Mexicans, African slaves etc.

Students will keep a diary of events political events occurring from the point of view of Native American, Mexican, African slaves etc.

Students reflect on the the after effects ----how the lives of these groups have changed throughout the course of history and how they way they live today is a direct result of Manifgest Destiny.

Students will reflect on how their lives would be different today if there was no Manifest Destiny. What would the United States of American look like today if there was no Manifest Destiny.,

The culiminating task in this project might be...Students will present a play entitled "Ghosts from the Past"
