Procedure 2: Searching for Newsgroup Postings

AltaVista Newsgroup Search Results for "Currents"

Results for newsgroup postings are a little different than search results from the Web. The best results are posted first. Notice also that the results are displayed by date, newsgroup name, e-mail of author, and article heading. You can select the article based on the newsgroup name or by the relevance of the article heading to your search topic.

If we click on the first message, we see the page on the right. From this page you can post a reply.

Now it's your turn to search for a newsgroup in AltaVista. Try a search on "whales" like you did for the Web search.

When you are finished with this exercise, please return to "Techniques for Searching the Web" for the next lesson on "Searching with Yahoo".

Go to AltaVista
