To start using CU-SeeMe on your Macintosh computer follow these steps:1. Once you have downloaded and installed CU-SeeMe, launch it by double-clicking the CU-SeeMe icon. 2. When CU-SeeMe successfully starts, the local video window appears on your desktop. If you are using a camera, turn the camera switch on, and your picture appears in the video window. If you aren't using a camera, a blank version of the local video window appears. 3. If it is the first time you are launching CU-SeeMe, a "Preferences" dialog box will appear. If it does not appear, then select Preferences from the Edit menu. The Preferences dialog box appears. Select the Conferencing panel from the pop-up menu. |

4. The video window appears on the top left corner of the screen. Type in a name or title in the Title box. Your title will appear in the title bar of the local video window. Typically, this will be your name, company name, country, or e-mail address. This is the name others will see in your video window. If you see yourself in the video window, you have a camera plugged in and operating. You will see *WAITING* below your local window. |

5. An audio window should also appear on your screen. You can tell if you are sending and receiving audio by observing whether the audio level is moving up and down. Watch the indicator under the speaker in the Audio window. You will see the audio level indicator rise as a person talks. To talk:

To make a connection and view other viewers: 1. Select Phone Book or Call from the Conference menu. 2. For the first conference, try connecting to White Pine Software where a reflector is set up, and you will meet other users. Select cu-seeme.com, White Pine Software, or 192.233.34.5 from the Phone Book.

3. Click the Call button. The status changes to "Connecting" in the local video window.
4. When a Message of the Day appears from the reflector, read it and then click OK. You may also get a list of available conferences from which to choose. If you have dialed a remote site, their picture will appear in a second video box on your screen.

To start a chat session: Select Chat from the Conference menu. Type the text in the lower portion of the Chat window and press Return to send the text. Your text now appears in the top portion of the window with your name. Anyone that has a Chat window open will see your text, and you will see the text that other users are typing. |

The Participant List is another window which you can display on your screen. It gives you information about the conference participants. You can easily identify the person speaking by watching for a highlighted bar in the Participants List window.

To answer an incoming call: The Connection Request window appears when another user is requesting a connection to your computer. The caller's name and number appears in the window title. Click on the "Answer" button to accept the call.
