Triton Chat Room |
|
A chat room is a place on the Web where two or more people can converse in real-time from any location. Chat rooms provide convenient means of inviting experts into the classroom as well as opportunities for students to discuss collaborated projects.

This is the window of the Triton Chat Room as you first enter the site. The number of people present in the chat room and the most recent statement made are displayed. Before submitting a statement, you are asked to type in a nickname. After your first entry, this text field does not reappear. To enter a statement, you simply type your comments into the text box to the right and click Send. Your statement will appear in place of the Nickname text field.

Your statement, and others' statements, will appear with the name of the author next to it. As more people enter the chat room, their nicknames will register in the pulldown button "Everybody." You can direct a comment or question to one person in the chat room by selecting their name under the pull down button "Everybody." However, everybody can read your statement. If the chat room is very active during a chat session, you will occasionally need to Update your screen to show the most recent statements. This is done by clicking on the "Update" button. Etiquette is important in chat rooms- it's advised that you converse in the chat room as if you were talking with others face-to-face. |

If you have Internet access, you can enter a chat room. It's easy to use, accessible, and in real-time. Invite people into your class and yak away!
