Science Classes: Design a project in which students will communicate with other students who are using CU-SeeMe. Example: Students could monitor their own weather and seasonal changes and compare and contrast their local environment with other students around the world. The individual schools could produce and playback videotapes of their own area as well as communicating. Other possible topics include toxic waste, pollution, endangered species, and recycling programs. Students could also contact NASA and other scientific organizations who are established users of CU-SeeMe.
Social Science Classes: Set up a lesson in which students communicate with other Cu-SeeMe users regarding regional culture, cuisine, and activities in their area. Example: Students can research and describe various indigenous tribes in their geographical area. Students from San Diego Country can share their research of the Diegueno tribe with students in Humboldt County who will share their research on the Hupa tribe.
Music and Art Classes: Music and art students can contact musician and artists at the university level. Students can also research the local music and art scene and compare it to other parts of the country.
Math Classes: Set up Math Clubs for students on differing levels. Example: Students in Calculus Clubs around the country can discuss problems or a suggested problem of the month. The Math Clubs can contact professors, engineers, mathematicians in the real world who can help apply theoretical problems to real life problems.
Foreign Language Classes: Students can practice their language skill with a native speaker. These contacts could also develop into pen pals with whom they could practice their writing skills.
English Classes: Set up book clubs and hold discussions on assigned readings.
All Classes: Create forums like the math club above, where problems are given to each discipline, and a monthly forum is set up over Cu-SeeMe with a guest contact person conducting the forum. All classes can hold videoconferences with experts in any field. Students can see how their work can have value and application in the "real world".
Teachers can communicate with other teachers without leaving their classroom. They can share lesson plan ideas and share guest speakers. Possible future uses of CU-SeeMe would be communication with parents to discuss progress, problems, and assignments.
Administrators can reduce their off-campus meetings which limits their time with staff and students.
