  • M.A. Education (curriculum development), SDSU

Background

I was born in San Diego, California, have lived here all my life and can't imagine living anywhere else. My entire working life (except for two short stints as a waitress) has involved teaching -- first as a T.A. while attending SDSU and for the past 29 years as a teacher in the San Diego Unified School District.

Currently, I live in a rural area of San Diego with my husband, Paul, and various animals.

Interests, Activities & Plans

I am currently teaching Adv. English 3-4, a course for high school sophomores focusing on essay writing and world literature, and English Literature 1-2, a course for seniors dealing with the literature of Great Britain.

In addition to my teaching duties, I am involved in two areas of educational reform at my high school -- senior portfolios/exhibitions and alternative scheduling. I will be piloting an alternative schedule next year for the English department. It will involve teaching an entire year of English literature in a semester (a two hour block). I am looking forward to the experiment!

Other Interesting Things

My passion is my hobby -- American quarter horses. I currently own two mares, seventeen year old Skippy, and her three year old daughter, Bitsy. The majority of my spare time (and disposable income!) goes to their care and training. They are my challenge and my joy as well as my relaxation. Every afternoon I can be found working with them; and, at least two weekends a month, I can be found at a local horse show.

In addition, I have two Yorkshire terriers, Bubba and Mickey, whom I love dearly and think of as my children. Taking them for walks is a simple pleasure I greatly enjoy.
