I teach American Literature, journalism, AVID, and cross country at Kearny High School in San Diego, California.

Background

I was born in Logansport, Indiana, a shrinking town of about 18,000 at the confluence of the Wabash and Eel rivers in the north central section of the state. I lived in Bloomington, IN, while attending Indiana University, then moved to San Diego in the mid-1970's where I have remained. Teaching has been my only profession, although I worked full-time during some of my college years as a cook, a waiter, a dispatcher for a trucking firm, and a laborer in a greenhouse and flower shop.

Interests, Activities & Plans

My current professional interests include flexible scheduling, interdisciplinary instruction, socratic seminars, and project-based classroom instruction. I have reached the point of diminishing returns with my relatively traditional approach so I would like to reach more students and avoid boredom.

Other Interesting Things

My hobbies include reading, cooking, working with wood. My chief interests are my wife, Pam, my three children, and a small but significant group of friends.
